Naturopathic Doctors are primary care doctors. Naturopathic Doctors attend four-year medical programs at accredited schools. Each state has its own licensure scope. In California, Naturopathic Doctors can order diagnostic tests, similar to what Medical Doctors can order. They are very wellness oriented. A Naturopathic Doctor incorporates conventional diagnostics with a natural medicine approach. The body is self-healing when given the right conditions. There are about 4,000 Naturopathic Doctors in the United States and about 400 in California. Schooling is similar to medical doctors, except there is a focus on natural medicine (also called alternative medicine). A “Naturopath” is not the same as a “Naturopathic Doctor.” Diseases are actually chronic lifestyle choices and Naturopathic Doctors are experts at treating chronic health conditions and have very successful outcomes (e.g., symptoms either minimize or completely disappear, and prescription drugs are minimized or eliminated).
