People say that “life begins at 40”. What do they exactly mean by that? Well, it means that you are at a point in your life where you’ll experience a lot of changes – both emotional and physical. One of the normal physical changes you’ll experience is weight gain due to hormone fluctuations, possible job promotion, and less active social group. If you’re a woman over 40, then this article will help you understand how to lose weight.

#1 Hormonal fluctuation

Some women experience menopause when they reach 40, while others experience it later. Normally however, women who are in the age group of 40 to 50 are experiencing a series of menorrhagia with periods of amenorrhea which is basically an early sign of menopause. During this time, the hormone levels fluctuate causing hormonal weight gain. The best thing you can do about it is to increase your daily activities to compensate the fat formation with a fat-burning activity.

#2 Possible job promotion

During this age, promotion at work is very likely; and most of the positions offered are even more sedentary than the previous position you had. For example, from supervisor to manager; though the new position is more challenging however most managerial jobs only involve looking and interpreting reports which will only require you to sit on your desk the whole day. If this is the case, you can try to make your job non-sedentary by doing ocular departmental visits everyday instead of just looking at the daily reports, have lunch at the cafeteria or someplace else instead of asking your secretary to get you one, and do easy exercises like crunches and jump-rope in the privacy of your office.

#3 Less active social group

Laziness usually comes as you get older; and since most of your friends are of the same age as you are, your girl bonding activities are not like before. Compared to your early years when your idea of fun was going to the beach, hours and hours of shopping, and dancing all night in disco pubs, women at age 40 and above would rather stay in a coffee shop or dine out. Because of these sedentary activities, you together with your friends will gain weight. If you don’t want this to happen, simply live like a fourteen year old instead of a forty. Do the activities that you have done before or probably explore other activities that you can do with your friends such as going to the gym, enrolling in dancing lessons, or trying a new sport like badminton.

Though internal and external changes are inevitable at this age, don’t allow them to make you fat and miserable. Remember that you always have the option to live a healthy and happy life.
